I 100% agree that we should have experts in the field in any industry or organization. These experts lead others to do their best to exceed their limits and continue to learn despite the difficulty involved or the challenges entrepreneurs have to face to master a particular skill.

However, there are times when we tend to stop learning and feel that we’re already at our peak. We’re at the point where we don’t need to learn any new skills or research any further information. By doing this to yourself, you deny yourself the progression you need to survive the new age that we currently live in.

The world has already entered the age of digitalization and information, and the old ways are slowly dying. Gone are the days when you learn one skill and find a job you’ll do for the rest of your life. It doesn’t work that way anymore and the sooner we realize this truth, the better it is for us as entrepreneurs.

To become a pioneer in this new age gives you massive amounts of opportunities to immortalize your business and ultimately, that’s what many of us want in the end. A company that can live on after you’ve passed away and become a legacy for generations to come.

Today, I’d like to talk with you about identifying if you have the expert syndrome and I’ll be showing you ways on how you can change your habits and improve as a pioneer in this new age.

You’re stuck with your facts and your way of doing things.

As experts in our field, sometimes, we love to do things our way. We don’t like new approaches or someone who is trying to be innovative. This is the old way of thinking.

We’re used to a particular way of doing things because you’ve probably studied your craft for years and years and it’s been the same routine ever since. While it makes you the master of your art for sure, it leaves your entrepreneurial spirit hungry. Hungry for new information. Hungry to learn what’s currently going on in the world today.

To become a pioneer in the new industries today, we have to reinvent ourselves continually. We have to be constantly changing to adapt to the unique situations that are thrown at us. In our age today, we’re doing so many things that would probably have taken lifetimes before. We’re so involved in many technological and cultural advances in our lives today that it can be overwhelming at times, but it’s our responsibility as pioneers to overcome these struggles and rise up to the occasion.

You’re comfortable with the skillset you have now, and you’re okay with that.

First of all, there’s nothing wrong with having a set arsenal of skills at your disposal. Heck, that’s why you’re who you are today. That’s why your work is impressive, and people recognize you for that. However, that’s your limitation right there—that’s your thing. The skills you have right now are what define you, and you’re okay with that.

Being comfortable with what you’re doing isn’t a bad thing, but if you’re looking to make a mark in history (or your industry at least) as one of the greats, then you have to be continually striving to get out of your comfort zone.

This is also one of the most difficult things to change if you want to become a pioneer. Staying in our comfort zone is second nature to us. As human beings, we look for the most straightforward ways and the most efficient strategies for us not to have a hard time with approaches that haven’t been tested before. Moving out of your comfort zone is the complete opposite, and you’re frequently challenging yourself and making it harder to move forward, which is where 90% of entrepreneurs fail.

Yes, it can be tricky to walk into the unknown, innovate, break the rules and try new approaches. But the prize of creating something that has never been seen and heard of before, is always worth it.

You’ve probably heard the saying “Think outside the box”…

It’s an overused statement by now, but there’s truth to the idea. The only way you’re going to keep improving is to look for new ways on how to tackle today’s problems. And there will be times when you’ll have to invent your way of fixing things because it doesn’t exist yet.

But rather than keeping this old idea, take it a step further by eliminating that “box” entirely!

The world today is evolving at a rapid rate. Technology keeps advancing months at a time. There’s always something new, and if you can’t keep up, you’ll get lost and creep back to your comfort zone; your “box”.

Pioneers learn through studies, and that’s what you’re aiming for. However, you also have to learn how to reinvent those studies for you to use what you learn in different situations and different problems. The main question that a pioneer is really asking is not “what is?” but rather, “what could be?”
